Offering development projects to foreigners, an insult to Iranian engineers: minister

TEHRAN, June 24 (MNA) — Minister of Roads and Transportation Mohammad Rahmati reiterated his commitment to avoid offering development projects to foreign contractors in cases where Iranian companies are able to do the task, he said, “Otherwise, it would be an insult to Iranian engineers.”

“Only, in cases in which foreign contractors own significant capitals and the need for their investments in the country is sorely felt, they should be invited to cooperate in development projects”, noted the minister.

Rahmati who was speaking to a group of workers, contractors and consultants working on Bafqh-Mashhad Railroad project added that, although only freight trains have been plying between the two cities of Bafqh and Mashhad so far, the passenger trains too will start to shuttle between the two cities as of July 16.

He also stated that in addition to bringing comfort for the passengers, the Bafqh-Mashhad passenger trains would also provide easy access to the distant southern Iranian provinces of Kerman and Yazd.
